New Delhi: NITI Aayog on Monday said in its report on elder care reforms in India that it is important to prioritize technology and artificial intelligence (AI) for elder care.
NITI Aayog on Friday released a position paper titled ‘Elderly Care Reform in India: Rethinking the Elderly Care Paradigm’.
“The release of this report is one of the stepping stones towards India’s commitment to achieving the goal of Vikshit Bharat@2047,” NITI Aayog Vice-Chairman Suman Berry said on the occasion.
“It is important to prioritize the broader application of technology and artificial intelligence to aged care. In addition to the medical and social aspects, it is time to start thinking about special aspects of aged care,” he said. added.
The position paper’s recommendations categorize the specific interventions needed in terms of empowerment, service delivery, and inclusion into four core areas: health, social, economic/financial, and digital.
“Now is the time to have a serious debate about promoting dignity, making aging safe and productive. There needs to be more focus,” NITI Member (Health) Dr VK Paul said in his address.
This report aims to pioneer the frontiers of aged care by recognizing the evolving medical and non-medical needs of older people, and develops effective and synergistic aged care policies. We envision a multifaceted strategy for designing. Saurabh Garg, Director General, Department of Social Justice and Empowerment (DoSJE), Department of Social Justice, said: “This report is a call for action on what needs to be done to put greater emphasis on elderly care.” .
