Welcome to Techmobile: Racine Public Library celebrates 125th anniversary with new library additions
RACINE – Racine Public Library (RPL) staff and community friends celebrated a birthday in style Friday night, including the launch of a state-of-the-art tech mobile.
The library first opened its doors on September 9, 1897, exactly 125 years ago. Originally a reading room developed by the Racine Women’s Club, it was located in the building that now houses the Divino Gelato Café (number 3).rd Main Street in downtown Racine.
The celebration, held outside 72 Seventh St. (home of the library since 1958), included crafts, story time, food and more.
Introducing Tech Mobile
But the real star of the event was the Techmobile, a custom vehicle built by Burlington’s LDV and funded through community donations.
The new mobile technology station joins RPL’s traditional Bookmobile and Book Bike as part of RPL’s Go! Efforts to utilize library resources beyond the walls of the library.
The bright blue Techmobile will be loaded with numerous technology items for visitors to use or borrow, including hotspots, laptop computers, programmable robots, and technology books in English and Spanish. It will also house some of his 3D printers and laser engravers in the library for workshops and training.
The Techmobile will operate on a pop-up basis, stopping at schools, community centers, and special events throughout the Racine community. To host Techmobile at your location or event, visit Library GO! His website page on RPL.
The Techmobile will be unveiled to visitors in downtown Racine during Party on the Pavement next Saturday (September 17).
