Telegram Mini Apps are a “Trojan horse” for large-scale blockchain adoption — TON Investment Director — TradingView

Blockchain-based mini-decentralized applications (DApps) on Telegram, also known as mini-apps, could become a “Trojan horse” for large-scale blockchain adoption.

TON Foundation Investment Director Justin Hyun told Cointelegraph:

“This is our theme, to bring more users into blockchain without educating them about blockchain. This is a Trojan horse way of saying, “Look, you’re trying to get all these user-friendly We don’t even necessarily have to call them DApps, even though we allow DApps.” […] All they use is Telegram Mini Apps, whether they use it in their channels or not. ”

Telegram Mini Apps was launched in 2020 as an open platform that allows Web3 businesses to deploy encryption-enabled apps directly within the Telegram messaging app.

They were launched in partnership with the Open Network (TON) Foundation and Tencent to create a super app platform.

Getting the next 500 million users on-chain will require simple initial use cases where users are not necessarily aware of the underlying blockchain interactions. Hyun says:

“We believe that mass adoption will initially come in the form of simple use cases, and then more sophisticated users will move away and move to different types of use cases. To have 500 million people on-chain by 2028, we will need use cases where users interact with the blockchain transparently on the front end.”
