Taiwanese blockchain technology company collaborates with journalists to Check the facts about upcoming elections in India In the fight against digital fraud.
Numbers Protocol says it used the same approach for the 2020 U.S. presidential election and Taiwan’s January 2024 presidential election.
In the run-up to the Indian general election starting April 19th, partner news organizations and photojournalists will work together to shoot content locally. This content is blockchain Platform using Numbers Protocol’s suite of tools, particularly Capture Cam and Capture Dashboard.
These tools aim to increase the authenticity of captured digital media by detecting potential manipulation attempts through artificial intelligence.
Beyond professional journalists, Numbers Protocol is inviting civil society organizations to contribute using the Capture application.
The platform automatically associates all user-generated content with provenance data. This embedded data allows media organizations to efficiently verify the authenticity of such content.
AI detects election fraud, fact-checking technology upgrades
Tammy Yang, co-founder of Numbers Protocol, highlighted the company’s approach to detecting deepfakes and manipulated media. She told CryptoNews that all content submitted by news organizations and photojournalists will undergo a blockchain registration process.
This allows users to upload content to a verification engine powered by AI models. The model then compares the uploaded content to a database of similar content. If the content comes from a trusted source, the engine will display an exact match.
Conversely, content from unverified sources is compared to similar content from established sources. This highlights potential discrepancies and provides a means for users to identify genuine information.
Upon registration, each piece of content receives a unique identifier (NID) generated using the ERC-7053 standard. This Nid corresponds directly to the hash of the content. Therefore, changing the original content will generate a different hash and, therefore, a different Nid. Additionally, the validation engine’s AI model can independently verify whether the uploaded content matches the registered version.
He also said that the validation engine will also be available for general use.
“We are actively collaborating with Indian civil society organizations and our own communities on this project,” she said. “We believe that citizen reporters are just as important as established news organizations, and their content should be protected and archived in the same way.”
Fair selection for election media verification
To ensure fairness, Mr. Yang emphasized that the selection process of affiliated journalists and news organizations will be conducted in a strictly fair manner.
“Numbers Protocol is a decentralized network and collaboration opportunities are open to all journalists and news organizations,” she said. “The value of Numbers Protocol is that it presents a complete picture and shows provenance (where the content came from, how it was generated, etc.) for anyone who wants to know the story behind the content.”
The provenance records created verify the integrity of digital content and can also be used by photojournalists as a mechanism to monetize and license their work.
