Downsizing is often a way to break away from everyday life, escape the rat race, and live happily with just a few possessions. But it doesn’t have to be that way. This super schoolie mobile home has been carefully planned with everything the owner could desire.

It is a very special piece of work, made from passion and over a long period of time. It turns out that this reformed schoolie is the brainchild of a musician named Mike. Everything has a cozy atmosphere with an artistic aesthetic behind it.
This incredible tree-and-rock-covered platform on wheels is a 1983 International School Bus. There’s no question about that. If you’re looking for a spacious mobile home, the Skoolie is one of, if not the best choice, both in terms of price and overall room on board.
From the outside, this 8.2-meter (27-foot) behemoth doesn’t look all that big, painted a rather gloomy, bog-green color. Even the wooden doors look like an afterthought or improvisation, so it’s no wonder he doesn’t notice the array of 1,100-watt solar panels mounted atop this unassuming vehicle.
But inside is a completely different story, boasting comfort seamlessly intertwined with technology. Admittedly, this isn’t immediately obvious either, as acres of sauna-reminiscent wood cover every surface, hiding something cool.

But things quickly start to get interesting when you step inside for a guided tour. The first room that welcomes guests serves as both a living room and a music studio. Well, at least in a sense. A large desk that can also be used as a dining table is seemingly versatile.
A quick look at its bottom reveals some questionable pedals that are clearly not used for driving. In fact, these are parts of the keyboard that can be slid out of the desk and are fully functional as Mike uses them to work on his music projects.
But that’s not the only thing that slips off the table. At the push of a button, the large TV also rises from the table and can be used as a computer monitor. But that’s not enough technology for this bus, so it’s also connected to a surround sound system that serves as a home cinema.
In keeping with the high-tech theme of this schoolie, some things are controlled via a smart home system. Amazon’s own Alexa is ready to turn on lights, lower blackout shades, and change the ambient temperature.

A series of batteries that can store the electricity needed to power all this technology are hidden under the sofa in the living room, presumably to provide a comfortable and warm lounging experience. As mentioned before, electricity is generated by an array of solar panels on the top of the skoolie.
As you move toward the rear of the bus, you’ll find a narrow passageway next to a vintage-style wood-burning stove flanked by inch-thick real stone veneer. This area houses the kitchen and looks great.
The countertop is made of wood that retains the natural texture of the bark. After polishing it with elbow grease and treating it with a few coats of polyurethane, it became something you would expect to see in a high-end home.
The sink follows the same theme, being just a drinking tub and perfectly integrated into the overall aesthetic. Of course, there are many storage cabinets, both under and above the countertop. A propane stove with three burners and a planter box complete the kitchen, making it as pleasing to the eye as it is functional.

On the opposite wall of the hallway is a ladder that provides access to the bus’s rooftop deck. Further inside, a door decorated with three rows of flowerpots leads to the bathroom. This is fairly simple, with no sink, just a composting toilet. To construct it, cement board covered with shower membrane and feathered concrete was used.
The water system, on the other hand, is quite ingenious and is required when you only have 66 gallons (250 liters) of fresh water. You can continue to circulate the water without pumping it out until it is heated. Then, when you open another valve, hot water will come out of the shower head without any waste.
The backmost area of this bus is the sleeping area. Attention to detail and artistic touches are evident here too, with the headboard made from reclaimed piano wood that Mike found in the woods.
There are several drawers under the flip-up bed for storage space. But the entire ensemble can also be lifted to reveal a large compartment where you can store many essentials, as well as a water tank and heater. Also note that this space can also be accessed through the rear door of the bus.
All in all, this Skoolie mobile home that doubles as a music studio is extremely luxurious, with everything inside carefully planned, taking about three years to build. This is a perfect example of what a school bus can become if you put in good vision, time, and effort.
