(TNS) — Police leaders and guests alike gathered Wednesday morning at NYPD Headquarters in Manhattan to honor Joseph Paolillo, the NYPD detective who died of 9/11-related cancer, with the prestigious Real Time Crime Center Emergency Mobile Response Vanguard. was dedicated. .
The unveiling ceremony was attended by many New York City police officers and leaders, including First Deputy Commissioner Tania Kinsella, Chief of Detectives Joseph Kenney, and New York City Police Foundation President Dr. Philip Ozua.
“This state-of-the-art vehicle will assist all detectives on the scene during critical incidents throughout the city,” Mr Kenney said. “This allows responding investigators to relay information to detectives on the scene in minutes. The vehicle’s new technology speeds investigations in time-sensitive and critical cases.”
Mr Kenney said the new vehicle would “replace and expand” the capabilities of the original unit, which was first introduced in 2005.
ABC reports that the van is equipped with a 50-inch tablet with interactive mapping and video conferencing capabilities, as well as a 46-inch external screen that can display information to the public.
The van was dedicated to Paolillo, who died of 9/11-related cancer in 2019.
“Detective Paolillo dedicated his life to protecting New York City, its citizens, and his family,” Kenney said.
As Kenney noted, the acquisition of the specialized van was made possible through funding from the New York City Police Foundation.
“We are proud to donate this newest vehicle to the department’s fleet in memory of Detective Joseph Paolillo,” Ozua said.
