Smart was named Pacific basketball coach after serving as an assistant at Texas Tech for one year.

LUBBOCK, Texas (KCBD) – Pacific University announced it has hired Texas Tech assistant Dave Smart as the program’s next head basketball coach.

Smart spent one year as an assistant coach under Grant McCasland at Tech. Smart previously won 656 games in 18 seasons as head coach at Carleton University in Canada, including 13 national titles.

To many, Smart is considered one of the best college basketball coaches in Canadian history.

“I am excited about the opportunity to lead the Tigers into a new era. I would like to thank Mr. Grant and everyone at Texas Tech for giving me a great experience last season.Emily, Gabe , Theo, and I can’t wait to get to Stockton, put down roots and get to work,” Ms. Smart said in a Pacific release.

The Pacific Tigers play in the West Coast Conference and are based in Stockton, California. This season, the Tigers had an undefeated record of 6 wins and 26 losses on the year and 0 wins and 16 losses in the WCC.

The WCC is comprised of the programs Pacific, Saint Mary’s, Gonzaga, San Francisco, Santa Clara, San Diego, Pepperdine, Loyola Marymount and Portland.
